Have you ever had one of those days where you feel the need to make up your own swear words, because the ones you already know are simply insufficient to express the depth of your frustration? I am having one of them there days.
It hasn't been a bad day overall, just a few poisonous, hope-killing things have crept into it. One of those days that seemed okay until you realize, that, holy crap (boring swear word), it's not. A huge medical bill arrived. A stupid mistake may have caused a disproportionately bad outcome, but, no way to know. One kid got a bad grade on a test and is resisting comfort, preferring instead to beat himself up until everyone's miserable. The other child misplaced a check (made out to "cash," of course) and neglected to tell me about it until today, when the school bus driver mercifully found it. Everybody except me looks and sounds like the "before" part of a seasonal allergy commercial. We are all feeling discouraged. We're all feeling short-tempered. All of a sudden, a day that seemed merely ordinary has blossomed into the craptastic.
I had really hoped that today I was going to be inspired to write one of those blog posts that would make Jesus weep with joy at its spiritual depth and Dorothy Parker cackle with glee at its wit. It is not looking good for the home team, though.
